Adele Nieves

Freelance Journalist, Writer and Speaker

About Adele Nieves

Adele began writing and reporting after being challenged by a college professor to follow her dreams. It took a transformational trip to India, a bout with a contagious parasite, and an intensive writing workshop in New York City before she would even consider it. Six months later she packed it in and decided to pursue writing full-time. She's never looked back.

Adele has an extensive background in event planning, marketing, promotion, and sales in New York, Michigan and Las Vegas. She earned her AAS in International Business from Berkeley College and her BA in Communications/Broadcasting from Seton Hall University.

Two years ago she decided to combine her professional background with her passion for women's justice, the written word and literary and political education by kicking her own activism into gear, the launch of an independent production company (Liquid Words Productions) and the compilation of her first anthology, Who Cares What We Think? Behind the Scenes Reflections and Critiques on Feminism in the 21st Century, An Anthology and CD.

She is also a former yoga coach, has a practical knowledge of written and spoken Spanish, is a strong advocate for diversity and active within women/people of color communities.

starAdele is Essence of Motown's "2007 Writer/Author of the Year," for her continued hard work, her literary creativity, and her efforts to improve Michigan's literary community.

Motown Writers Network, to network, market, educate, and promote writers in the Metro Detroit Area.

Automated Collective, a unique group recently formed in New York City. Its purpose is built upon the core belief that everyone is an artist waiting to be seen or heard, and the only thing impeding the realization of one's inner artist is an ideal venue.

Our objective is to provide a venue for photography, spoken word, poetry readings and live music that will allow attendees and performers to feel that they are part of a movement, as opposed to a spectator or performer for the sole purpose of profit. We believe there is a real desire on the part of artists and art-lovers alike for venues that allow free expression without the typical commercial or material pressures; a place where artists have the freedom to be exactly who they are.
